Sustainable and Valueble Energy (SAVE) Event 2025

KUCHING, 12–13 August 2025 – The Sustainable and Valuable Energy (SAVE) 2025 event officially commenced at the Imperial Hotel, Kuching, marking a milestone in Sarawak’s journey toward sustainable energy development. The two-day international conference brings together industry leaders, researchers, and entrepreneurs to explore innovative technologies and foster strategic partnerships in the field of sustainable energy.

Hosted by the Association of Technicians and Technologists (APTT) and jointly organized with the Malaysian Association of Engineers (MAE), the Malaysian Steam and Internal Combustion Engine Engineer Association (MSIEA), and the Korea Electric Engineers Association (KEEA), the conference serves as a premier platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. With the strong industrial support of Lee Bridge Korea and HFS Heavy Industries Sdn Bhd, SAVE 2025 has become a significant bridge between Malaysia and Korea in advancing energy technologies.


A highlight of SAVE 2025 is the strong Korean presence, with 20 leading companies sponsored by Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd. (KOEN) showcasing their latest innovations in renewable energy and sustainable solutions. Delegations from KOEN, Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), and Sarawak Energy Development Corporation (SEDC) are also among the distinguished speakers presenting at the conference.

In his welcoming remarks, Ts. Ir. Ahmad Zawawi Kasmin, Chairman of APTT and main organizer of SAVE 2025, emphasized the importance of international collaboration in tackling global energy challenges. “Through SAVE 2025, we are helping to bridge knowledge, networks, and new technologies, not only from Korea, but from across the region so that Sarawak continues to grow as a regional leader in renewable energy, hydrogen technology, and low carbon innovation,” he said.


SAVE 2025 served as a premier platform for industry leaders from Korea and Malaysia to share the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in sustainable energy. Day one featured 13 insightful paper presentations, covering topics ranging from renewable energy systems to cutting-edge industrial practices. As for day two, it focused on a Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings, enabling delegates to explore potential collaborations with other industry experts.

The conference was graced by the Guest of Honour, Y.B. Datuk Dr. Haji Hazland bin Abg Hj. Hipni, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, who represented the Premier of Sarawak in delivering the keynote address and officiating the conference.


The conference also witnessed a series of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) exchanges, symbolizing Malaysia’s growing commitment to global energy partnerships with the presence of YB Datuk Dr. Haji Hazland. The first MOU Exchange was between the APTT and ISMR, with Mr. Seokhwan Jung, Researcher, Innovated Small Modular Reactor Development Agency, Korea exchanging the MOU documents with Ir. Ts. Br. Ahmad Zawawi, Chairman of APTT. The second exchange was between APTT and UiTM, with Prof. Dr. Firdaus Abdullah Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) exchanging the MOU documents with Ir. Ts. Br. Ahmad Zawawi.


The third exchange was made between APTT and TAM, with Adjunct Professor Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMR. Dr. Cassidy Anak Morris, President of Technological Association Malaysia (TAM) Sarawak Branch exchanging the MOU documents with Ir. Ts. Br. Ahmad Zawawi. Lastly, the forth MOU exchange was between MAE and JKRS, where the President of Malaysian Association of Engineers (MAE), Yg. Berusaha Datuk Ir. Ts. Feroz Hanif Mohamed Ahmad, exchanged the MOU documents with Adjunct Professor Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMR. Dr. Cassidy, Director of Jabatan Kerja Raya Sarawak (JKRS). These collaborations signify an important step toward knowledge sharing, capacity building, and potential technology transfer between Korea and Malaysia.

Another key agenda was the Research Grant Presentation, with Ts. Br. Gs. Noor Nikman Salleh, Director of Black Dot Management Sdn Bhd, awarding RM10,000 research grants each to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), represented by Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Kuryati, and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), represented by Prof. Madya Dr. Jati Kasuma Ali. These grants will support research and development projects focusing on sustainability and community building.


With its blend of high-level discussions, international participation, and impactful collaborations, SAVE 2025 positions Sarawak as a key hub for sustainable energy dialogue in the region, paving the way for future innovation and growth. SAVE 2025 emphasized the critical role of innovation, collaboration, and knowledge exchange in shaping the future of sustainable energy. With contributions from key speakers and industrial supporters, the event underscored the importance of bridging expertise across nations for long-term energy security and environmental sustainability.
